Matt McQuaid anticipates that he will play overseas next season

Former Michigan State sharpshooter Matt McQuaid recently came to show off for the Moneyball Pro-Am crowd and also took the time to speak to the media. After playing (limited minutes) in the NBA’s Summer League last month for the Detroit Pistons, Matt McQuaid confirmed that he is expecting to go overseas for his next season of basketball.

“That’s most likely,” said McQuaid. “I want to play in the NBA. That’s my all-time dream, but just playing the game you love for money, you can’t beat that. I don’t mind going overseas. I’m excited.”

If Matt McQuaid heads overseas, he’ll be the second Spartan this summer to do so after Kenny Goins announced next month that he signed a deal with Pallacenestro Trapani in Italy.

I was bullish about McQuaid’s prospects to find an NBA home (or at least G-League) before the summer, but after he had a hard time finding minutes for the Pistons in Summer League it seems like this is the best option for McQuaid. Europe pays better than the G-League so it’s good to see a guy go play the sport he loves for good pay.
