Matt Lucas resurrects Shooting Stars' George Dawes to cheer everyone up with Baked Potato Song

Matt Lucas is trying his best to cheer up a country under lockdown by bringing back one of his most popular characters.

The comedian, 46, sang one of George Dawes' best loved tracks - the Baked Potato Song - in a video posted to his Twitter account on Tuesday night.

Matt played scorekeeper George in the outlandish panel show Shooting Stars and would occasionally perform his self-penned songs.

But in this video the Baked Potato Song had been given a coronavirus themed makeover.

Matt kept the original lyrics at first, singing: "Baked potato changed my life, baked potato showed me the way.

"Only go to grocery stores. Thank you baked potato.

"If you want to have a better day you must listen to what the baked potatoes say.
