Matt Lucas responds to critics who blasted his Boris Johnson impression following lockdown update

Matt Lucas uploaded an impression of Boris Johnson onto Twitter following the Prime Minister’s lockdown update.

But while some are delighted with his take on the issue, others are not so happy.

The Little Britain comic repeated some of the points that Mr Johnson presented during his address to the nation on Sunday evening, mocking his message, which has been widely slammed as ‘confusing’.

The UK government’s updates surrounding the coronavirus prevention measures include unlimited exercise, being able to drive to destinations for leisure time, and going back to work in some instances.

The changes still include adhering to the two metre social distancing rule.

Mat uploaded a video of himself mimicking the PM’s voice, saying: "So, we are saying don't go to work, go to work.

"Don't take public transport, go to work.

"Don't go to work, stay indoors. If you can work from home, go to work, don't go to work.

"Go outside, don't go outside and then we will, or won't, err, something or other."

While many praised Matt's reaction to the news, his satire appeared to fall short for some of his followers, who were not impressed that he was using humour when so many people have died from COVID-19.

One replied: “Meanwhile Matt people are dying !!!!

“Love ya to bits but........  Not really the time for taking the p*ss.

“People are having to bury their families !!!!!”

But the comic was quick to respond to the criticism, saying that the PM needs to be held to account over the clarity of his messages.

Matt said: “I know 7 people who have died, Andy. When the message from our PM is clear and effective, satirists like me will be out of a job. I'll be happy when that happens.”

But not everyone was against his take on the rules.

Another follower said: "This is actually clearer than what Johnson said."
