Matt Lucas pretended to be Marjorie Dawes in prank call to Paul Hollywood's mum

Matt Lucas is a man of many faces, sparking laughs – and complaints – for his hilarious Boris Johnson skit on Bake Off this week.

And Talk TV can reveal that the comic even pranked judge Paul Hollywood’s mum when he pretended to be a well-known Little Britain character.

The 46-year-old host – who has taken over from Sandi Toksvig, 62 – called unsuspecting Gill, pretending to be FatFighters’ favourite Marjorie Dawes.

In the show, the larger-than-life character led a diet club, and suggested her clients ate dust to lose weight.

Paul, 54, explains: “Marjorie Dawes – he did that one for my mother. He phoned up my mum because  my mum’s lost a little bit of weight and I said, ‘Can you wind her up, Matt?’ He goes, ‘Oh yeah, sure’. So I think he started off going, ‘I believe you’ve lost an ounce?’

“He was just fantastic. I love his voices, they’re brilliant.”

Prue Leith, 80, agrees: “And he just slips into them so easily, doesn’t he? He’s an amazing actor.”

Paul adds: “I’ve always been a massive fan of Little Britain. I was a big fan of some of his characters, you know, so it was lovely trying to coerce him into doing some of the voices.”

Matt – who presents the show with Noel Fielding, 47 – opened this year’s Bake Off with his Boris Johnson skit.

Many people loved it, but Ofcom has since received almost 200 complaints.

Wearing a floppy platinum-blond wig and standing at a lectern featuring the slogan, “Stay Alert, Protect Cake, Save Loaves,” Lucas perfectly mastered the PM’s distinctive voice as he spoofed his coronavirus briefings.

It’s not the first time Matt has taken aim at Johnson. He went viral back in May after sharing a video mocking Boris’s mixed messages.

At its peak, 7.9million watched the first episode of Bake Off on Tuesday – up more than a million on last year.

Don’t stop what you’re doing, Matt.
