Matt Lucas mocks Boris Johnson's coronavirus speech in new video

Matt Lucas has shared a parody video in which he mocks Boris Johnson’s latest speech on coronavirus.

The prime minister revealed a new 'Stay Alert' slogan on lockdown rules yesterday, but has come under fire for a lack of clarity around the messaging.

Lucas’ video ruthlessly mocks Johnson’s explanation of the new measures with Lucas doing a spot-on impression of the PM.

“So, we are saying don’t go to work, go to work, don’t take public transport, go to work, don’t go to work,” the 46-year-old comedian says in the clip.

“Stay indoors. If you can work from home go to work, don’t go to work, go outside, don’t go outside. And then we will or won’t, ah, something or other.”

Fans on Twitter praised Lucas’ parody, with one writing: “Matt Lucas sums up #borisspeech in about 20 seconds.”

“Thank you @RealMattLucas!! This actually make more sense!” wrote actor Will Mellor.

Lucas appeared to reveal in a follow-up tweet that he knows seven people who have passed away from coronavirus.

When a Twitter user told him it was “not really the time for taking the p***,” he responded graciously.

“I know 7 people who have died, Andy. When the message from our PM is clear and effective, satirists like me will be out of a job. I'll be happy when that happens,” he wrote.
