Matt Lucas lands new self-isolation entertainment show on Channel 4

Matt Lucas will host a new entertainment show written by Harry Hill focussed on keeping the British public smiling during coronavirus lockdown.

The Little Britaincomedian will present Reasons to be Cheerful with Matt Lucas, a new entertainment programme featuring comedic sketches and interviews with key workers on the frontline in the battle against Covid-19, as well as comedians, sports stars and other TV personalities.

Starting on Sunday 26 April, Lucas and his guests will broadcast from their homes over a six part series, while comedian Mo Gilligan is also to present his own quarantine mini-series, Mo Gilligan’s All Star Happy Hour.

Lucas has worked hard fundraising from self-isolation, releasing the song “Thank You Baked Potato” as a charity single to raise money for Feed NHS, which aims to deliver hot meals to NHS staff and critical care workers.

It follows the 46-year-old’s move to Channel 4 as the new host of The Great British Bake Off, replacing Sandi Toksvig as Noel Fielding’s co-presenter.

“I’m chuffed to bits to be joining the most delicious show on television,” Lucas said of his announcement. “I can’t wait to break bread with Noel, Prue [Leith] and Paul [Hollywood] and meet the brilliant bakers.

“And bearing in mind my love of cake, I’ve already ordered some much larger trousers in anticipation.”
