Matt Lantry in for the long haul with Pickers

MATT Lantry isn't leaving Maitland any time soon.

The Pickers coach has re-signed with the Newcastle Rugby League club until the end of 2024.

"I've got this one [season] left and now another three on top of that," Lantry said.

"It's a good place, with good people and we're building. I hope we can keep it going."

Lantry, a former NSW Cup mentor with the Knights, joined Maitland from Wests after winning the 2019 premiership.

Last year, with coronavirus impacting all competitions, the Pickers joined the statewide President's Cup and claimed the title.

Maitland retained the bulk of their playing group for 2021 and have dropped just one game from 11 appearances this Newcastle RL campaign, leaving them joint leaders on the ladder.

FIXTURES: Newcastle v Canberra at Maitland Sportsground (Saturday); Lakes v Wests at Cahill Oval, Kurri v Maitland at Kurri Sportsground (Sunday).

* STILL on Maitland and the return of Faitotoa Faitotoa from Queensland Cup before the June 30 transfer deadline could have presented Pickers coach Matt Lantry with some selection headaches, particularly in relation to the weekly player points cap.

However, with former NRL player Matt Allwood (pectoral) now sidelined for the season it gives Lantry slightly more breathing room.

* BACK to the coaching front and expressions of interest for jobs at Lakes and Cessnock next year have both been given deadlines.

The Seagulls want applications received by Friday while the Goannas require paperwork by July 4.

* MACQUARIE'S Ben Roose is set to contest a dangerous contact charge at the Newcastle RL judiciary next week and try to avoid a one-match suspension.

Jerome Wilson (dangerous contact) from Wests and Shaun Sinclair (dangerous throw) from The Entrance, both avoided bans with early guilty pleas this week.
