Matt LaFleur says Packers QB Jordan Love got ‘dinged’ vs. Texans

The plan was to play Jordan Love for three quarters on Saturday night against the Houston Texans, but Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur said Love got “dinged” on a strip-sack late in the second quarter and was removed from the game at halftime.

LaFleur wouldn’t get into specifics or provide details on the severity of the injury until he knew more information.

“He kind of got dinged on that strip-sack, so we just thought it was best to let him rest the second half,” LaFleur said. “I’ll be able to update you a little more tomorrow.”

Love, the Packers’ first-round pick in 2020, started the game and played two quarters. He completed 12 of 17 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown. His passer rating was 110.4.

Love said he was “feeling good” after the game.

“Got my arm hit on that play and dinged my shoulder,” Love said.

Late in the second quarter, Love was stripped sacked by defensive end Jonathan Greenard, who knocked the ball out of Love’s right hand as he was attempting to throw down the field.

On the team’s final drive of the half, Love handed off three times and the Packers punted the ball away.

“I thought there was a lot of good things he did. He made really solid decisions. There were a couple of balls he gotta let it rip a little more, and not try to aim it. But overall, just the command, getting in and out of the huddle, it was a pretty clean operation, which was a positive,” LaFleur said.

Love was making his NFL debut after not having a preseason or being active in any regular-season games as a rookie in 2020.
