Matt Hancock will 'reflect' on Bolton's hospitality lockdown

Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said he will 'reflect' on Bolton's lockdown following mounting pressure from businesses and MPs.

Pubs, restaurants and cafes in Bolton have been closed since September 8, with only takeaway services available. Deliveries were forbidden after the 10pm curfew, but those particular restrictions have now been removed.

As Bolton's rate of infection continues to fall, calls have been made for the hospitality industry to be allowed to get back to normal..

Earlier this week, Conservative Bolton West MP Chris Green wrote an open letter to Mr Hancock, pleading with him to bring the borough's measures in line with the rest of Greater Manchester.

Bolton South East MP Yasmin Qureshi said she'd written two letters to Mr Hancock, but said she'd received no reply.

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham described the ongoing situation as 'indefensible '.

Conservative MP for Bolton North East Mark Logan met with Mr Hancock in the House of Commons yesterday (Wednesday) and recorded a video for his TikTok page, which he later shared to Facebook.

In the video, Mr Hancock addresses the current situation in Bolton and said he will 'reflect' on it, while telling people in Bolton to 'follow the restrictions that are in place'.

He said: "I understand the impact these measures have had in Bolton and we both know how important it is that we control the virus.

"The best thing that people can do is follow the restrictions that are in place but I've heard loud and clear the representations that you've made and I'll go and reflect on those."
