Matt Hancock will hold a press conference this afternoon ahead of lockdown easing measures set to start in England from Monday.
It comes after 16 cases of another new variant of Covid were detected yesterday.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock will lead a Downing Street press conference later on Friday with Public Health England’s Dr Susan Hopkins, No 10 confirmed.
And it comes as the Government is under fire for offering NHS staff a pay rise of just one per cent.
The briefing from Downing Street is expected at 5pm.
Mr Hancock will urge people to stick to the rules as some measures are eased from Monday.
All pupils will be allowed to go back to school and there are changes in social contact regulations.
The Government has made it clear rules will not be relaxed if Covid infection rates do not come down - which can be caused by rule breaches.
