Matt Hancock to appear on this year's Love Island odds slashed amid affair claims

Odds on Matt Hancock appearing on this year's Love Island have been slashed amid affair claims.

The Health Secretary has come under fire after pictures emerged of him appearing to share a passionate kiss with one of his senior aides.

He has also been accused of breaching his own coronavirus restrictions on social distancing, with pictures believed to be taken on May 6 when hugging people from other households was still banned.

Hancock, who is married and is a father of three children, has since issued an apology and has asked for privacy at this time.

Opposition politicians have called for the 42-year-old to be sacked and the Tory politician has been widely mocked by people across the UK on social media.

And now Ladbrokes has joined in as the betting firm confirmed that the odds on Hancock appearing on this year's Love Island have been reduced to 100-1.

The popular ITV2 show, which is due to start on Monday, sees groups of singletons attempt to find love in a swanky villa in Majorca, Spain.

Ladbrokes reckon that the politician could be a last minute addition to this year’s show.

Jessica O’Reilly of Ladbrokes said: “It appears Matt Hancock has been doing bits in Westminster and if he’s soon to be axed from his role as Health Secretary his odds of spending the summer in Majorca could be slashed.”

Matt Hancock said he was “very sorry” in a statement issued shortly after the images began to circulate across the globe.

“I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances, I have let people down and I am very sorry”, he said.

“I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has backed his Health Secretary and added that he considers the matter closed.

"You've seen the Health Secretary's statement, so I would point you to that," a spokesman for the Prime Minister said after being asked by reporters why Hancock remained in post.

"I don't really have anything further to add.

"The Health Secretary set out that he accepted he had breached the social distancing guidelines and he has apologised for that.

"The Prime Minister has accepted the Health Secretary's apology and considers the matter closed."
