Matt Hancock is said to have received medical treatment after being stung by a scorpion on the set of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!

According to The Mail, the Conservative MP for West Suffolk was stung on the finger while participating in the ITV staple.

Comedian Babatunde Aleshe commented on the sting itself after Geordie hosts Ant & Dec revealed that Matt had been put forward for his fourth task He said: "Do you know what Matt? You are the man, you are the man, four trials and you got stung by a scorpion, and you have to go do a trial."

According to the Mayo Clinic, scorpion stings are painful but rarely life-threatening. Only about 30 of the estimated 1,500 species of scorpions produce venom toxic enough to be fatal.

Young children and older adults are most at risk of serious complications. They are said to cause intense pain, numbness and tingling and slight swelling - but for those stung by a poisonous variety it can be serious and even lead to death.

Since joining the show the 44-year-old politician did his first Bushtucker trial, Beastly Burrows, with fellow latecomer Seann Walsh. He has since then taken part in every other trial after falling foul of the brutal public vote.

He has told his fellow contestants that he is hoping for a bit of forgiveness after breaching Covid rules while Health Secretary. He was caught kissing his former aide Gina Coladangelo last year while social distancing rules remained in place.
