Matt Hancock's kiss with aide Gina Coladangelo won't be investigated by police

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed it will not investigate Matt Hancock over an alleged breach of coronavirus restrictions.

The Force issued a statement after CCTV stills emerged showing the Health Secretary apparently kissing an aide.

The pictures of Mr Hancock and Gina Coladangelo were first published by The Sun and were reportedly taken on May 6.

In later footage shared by the publication, Mr Hancock can be seen checking to see that the corridor is clear before closing the door and leaning on it to kiss Mrs Coladangelo.

The Met Police said it was "aware of the distribution of images alleged to have been obtained within an official Government premises", Birmingham Live reports.

The statement, also published by The Sun, added: "No criminal investigation has been launched.

"At this time this remains a matter for the relevant Government department."

On whether Mr Hancock could be investigated, the force said: "Where the Met receives allegations of breaches of the Health Protection Regulations 2020, we will focus on those that are live, or where police action can enable a change to behaviour that is posing a current public health risk."

Matt Hancock earlier issued an apology, saying: "I accept that I breached the social distancing guidance in these circumstances.

"I have let people down and am very sorry.

"I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and would be grateful for privacy for my family on this personal matter.”

Mrs Coladangelo, reported to be a millionaire, and Mr Hancock met at the student radio station at Oxford University in the early 2000s.

She is a communications director of Oliver Bonas and director and a major shareholder of the London-based lobbying and public relations firm Luther Pendragon, which offers clients a “deep understanding of the mechanics of government”.

Mrs Coladangelo and her husband, Oliver Bonas founder Oliver Tress, have three children.

Mr Hancock has been married to his wife Martha Hancock for 15 years, and the couple have three children together.

He has been the Tory MP for West Suffolk since 2010 and Health Secretary since 2018.
