Former health secretary Matt Hancock has tested positive for coronavirus for the second time but the Tory MP says he ‘feels fine’.
Hancock said he has been isolating at home since testing positive for the virus yesterday afternoon.
He first caught covid in April 2020 when he was the UK Government’s health secretary and was front and centre of Westminster’s fight against the virus.
Tonight the politician took to social media to urge people to get their booster jag, claiming it has helped him.
Hancock tweeted: “Yesterday afternoon I tested positive for Coronavirus. I’ve been isolating at home since then.
“Thankfully I feel fine.
“Much better than last time and that’s thanks to the vaccine. Get your booster now if you haven’t already.”
Speaking when he first caught coronavirus in April 2020, he said: “It is rough, especially when you are on the downhill part of it - it’s very worrying because we’ve all seen how serious it can get.
“I had a couple of days when it was really very unpleasant and I’ve lost about half a stone.”
Recently it emerged Hancock and his lover Gina Coladangelo were both at Downing Street’s lockdown-busting cheese and wine party on the same day he told Brits to keep two metres apart, according to Mirror Online.
He is to be questioned in the next few days by senior civil servant Sue Gray, who is investigating whether members of the Government broke Covid restrictions at a series of parties.
A picture of the event shows the Prime Minister, his wife 17 staff members enjoying wine and cheese and it appears to show Mr Hancock and Ms Coladangelo in a group in the garden of Number 10 during the first national lockdown.
The photo, first obtained by the Guardian, was said to have been taken on May 15 2020, during the first coronavirus lockdown.
Earlier that day Mr Hancock had told the public: “People can now spend time outdoors and exercise as often as you like - and you can meet one other person from outside your household in an outdoor, public place. But please keep two metres apart.”
Ms Coladangelo, who has reportedly indicated she is happy to be questioned over the event, was working as an unpaid adviser to Mr Hancock at the time.
Mr Hancock, a married father-of-three, stepped down from his Cabinet role last summer after footage leaked from a CCTV camera inside his office showed him kissing and hugging married mum-of-three Ms Coladangelo, breaching his own coronavirus restrictions.
