Matt Hancock becomes unlikely TikTok star after being mobbed on London District Line train

Matt Hancock had his baseball cap playfully stolen by a group of women on the London Underground in a rare public appearance.

In footage posted on TikTok, the former Health Secretary was filmed wearing a face mask in the encounter on a District Line train at around 9pm on Saturday.

His hat was pinched twice by the group of women, who were on a night out at the time.

The incident comes two months after he was forced to quit the Government for breaking Covid rules with his mistress.

Mr Hancock, wearing red shorts and a navy polo shirt, can be seen standing up to cheer and applause after three of the women surround him and ask: “Are you really Matt Hancock?”

A woman in a blue dress then takes off his hat and dances around with it on.

Mr Hancock then makes his way to the standing area of the carriage. He then appears in the video with his hat returned to him.

The women huddle around Mr Hancock before they alight the Tube train and say: “We're loving Matt. We don't want to get off.”

But as the Tube pulls into the station the hat is stolen from Mr Hancock’s head again, and the same woman runs off the Tube with it in her hand.

Before the women leave, the MP can be heard saying: “You go and enjoy yourselves.”

Mr Hancock was forced to quit the Cabinet in June when CCTV from his Whitehall office was leaked of him kissing his married aide Gina Coladangelo in breach of social-distancing rules.

Following the scandal he reportedly told his wife Martha that their marriage was over and announced he would be spending time away from the spotlight.
