Matt Forte has high praise for Bears RB David Montgomery

You don’t have to look too far back in Chicago Bears history to catch a glimpse of the model the Bears hope rookie running back David Montgomery can become.

Former Bears running back Matt Forte took notice, as did many others, of Montgomery’s preseason NFL debut against the Carolina Panthers, in which the former Iowa State Cyclone flashed his vision, contact balance and versatility in the run and pass game.

That’s high praise indeed coming from Forte, who was an impactful player for many years with the Bears.

That vision, balance and elusiveness that Forte noticed was evident in Montgomery’s short stint in the Bears’ 23-13 loss to the Panthers. Especially on his seven-yard touchdown run, where he was patient, in letting the play develop, before cutting left and weaving his way through defenders to find the end zone.

“I just saw open space and ran to it,” Montgomery said, via the Sun-Times.

It’s easy to wonder what could’ve been for Forte in a Matt Nagy offense. But perhaps we won’t have to look much further than Montgomery, who seems like the perfect fit for Nagy’s offense.
