Matt Evers says Dancing On Ice will return without delay in January

Dancing On Ice will return without delay in January, one of the show's professional skaters has claimed.

Matt Evers, who has skated with Gemma Collins and Ian 'H' Watkins in recent years, says ITV has still been planning to air the show at its usual time in the new year.

He revealed that producers are trying to work out a way to bring the show back with social distancing guidelines in place, which may include not having a live studio audience.

Speaking to new! magazine, Matt, 44, has explained: "At the minute the series is still full steam ahead. ITV is planning on it being on at the same time."

Matt said TV channels had been working together to draw up guidelines about to how to film shows in the age of social distancing.

He continued: "They've written new guidelines for production, keeping social distancing in mind and making sure there aren't mass gatherings with audiences.

"So the likes of Strictly and Dancing On Ice may not have live audiences.

"But ITV is adamant is still wants to create entertainment, because as humans we need it."

ITV declined to comment when contacted by Mirror Online.

Last year's Dancing On Ice was won by Joe Swash and his skating partner Alex Murphy.

They were a surprise win, beating the favourites Perri Kiely and Vanessa Bauer.

Last week the show caused controversy when Alex was told she wouldn't be returning to the show next year, despite her win.

She said she was "heartbroken" by the unexpected decision.
