Matt Doherty to fix Jose Mourinho's problem as Ainsley Maitland-Niles sent transfer message

Here is your Tottenham morning digest for Thursday, August 27.

Matt Doherty to fix Mourinho problem

Tottenham are in the hunt for a new right-back, which has been a problem area for a while, and those issues have been intensified with Kyle Walker-Peters moving to Southampton and Serge Aurier lined-up for a switch to AC Milan.

football.london understands that Spurs are interested in signing Matt Doherty from Wolves this summer and Jose Mourinho is a huge fan of the Republic of Ireland international.

The 28-year-old has been a key part of Wolves' Premier League success over the past two years and it comes as no surprise to see Nuno Espirito Santo's man linked with a move to one of the league's best sides.

Capable of operating as a right-back, right wing-back, left-back or right midfielder, Doherty always has a big influence in the final third for his club and this can be seen in his attacking numbers.

Troy Parrott issues Tottenham message

Troy Parrott was on the scoresheet on Tuesday afternoon as Millwall recorded a convincing 5-1 victory over National League side Bromley.

Speaking to NewsAtDen after the game, the hotshot opened up on where exactly he can operate at Millwall and his first few weeks at The Den.

“I don’t have a favourite position, I’ll play wherever gets me in the team,” explained Parrott.

“Obviously I’m a striker, I’ve grown up as a striker. I like playing off the left and behind the striker as well. Either of those three positions I don’t mind. It’s been great so far, I feel so welcome. I’ve settled in really well and really fast.”

Maitland-Niles told not to join Spurs

Ainsley Maitland-Niles is poised to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window, with Wolves having a £15m bid rejected by the Gunners.

Spurs have been touted with a move for the 22-year-old but, speaking to Football Insider, Darrent Bent has urged Maitland-Niles not to move across north London.

“He’s got the capability to play in several different positions. I can’t see how Arsenal can let that one happen, I think the fans are going to be infuriated.

“I know a lot of the fans like him down there. They won’t be able to understand letting him walk out of the door especially to your rivals. I don’t think it would go down too well.”
