Matt Doherty has explained why Tottenham Hotspur's interest in him is justified.
football.london understands that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is a fan of Doherty, who can play not only as a right-back but also as a wing-back, right-sided midfielder and as a left-back.
And it's the Republic of Ireland international's admission regarding his versatility which would make him the ideal signing for the north London outfit.
"I played two seasons there for Wolves – one and a half seasons, maybe, it was – so it would be nothing new to me. I know that I’ll be able to adapt to it and if that’s the case, then it shouldn’t really be a problem and I should be able to play just almost as well as I can on the other side," he said last year.
"Positionally, if I’m on the right-hand side you automatically know where you’re meant to be – if you’re meant to be a little bit higher or deeper
"Going to the left everything feels a little bit off. You might be a little too high at times, or a little too close to the centre-back at times. Going forward there is no real issue, it’s more defensively. Positionally, it might take a couple of minutes to get used to, but that’s it.
"You can cut in, you can do many things.
"You can play long-field passes, shoot, play one-twos and they always think you’re going to go inside, which allows you to go down the line too.
"I enjoy going forward from the left, it opens the game up."
With Wolves expected to sign Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles in a deal worth around £20m, his ability to play at right-back could help Spurs' chances of signing Doherty in a £12m deal.
Following Kyle Walker-Peters' move to Southampton as well as Serge Aurier potentially moving on this summer, Mourinho is on the market for reinforcements at right-back.
Should Spurs get a deal for Doherty over the line, he will become the club's third signing of the summer.
Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart have already arrived from Southampton and on a free transfer respectively and made their debuts in a pre-season friendly win over Ipswich Town last weekend.
Crucially, like the aforementioned duo, Doherty has Premier League experience since helping Wolves win promotion in 2018.
