Matt Doherty fires Tottenham Premier League title warning

Matt Doherty has warned Tottenham must win their next two games to get back into the title race.

Tottenham entertain Fulham on Wednesday and then also have Leeds at home on Saturday lunchtime as they try and make up ground on leaders Liverpool.

Spurs are now six points behind Liverpool after letting another lead slip late on at Wolves and they have dropped nine points this season after conceding goals in the last ten minutes of games.

Tottenham full back Doherty said: “Look, we're going into the next two games knowing we've got to win to try and put some pressure on the top.”

Doherty also lamented Spurs not winning at his former club on Sunday night as they led from the first minute until they were pegged back in the dying stages.

He added: “It's tough to take when you concede that late in a game. I know we were under pressure, they were knocking it around but we'd defended for 85 minutes and you thought that we would see it out but that wasn't the case and we were disappointed.

"Listen, we came out of the traps flying and that's what we've got to do in the next game, do something in the second half and if we can take our chances.”

Jose Mourinho followed suit by making his frustrations known as he bemoaned the lack of ambition from his players.

He said: "I am frustrated with the result, we had control of game, we had 89 minutes to score more goals and we didn't.

"It's not just about not scoring but also not being dangerous and ambitious and for me that's the problem.

"But I don't think is very, very obvious to go in that direction and not to go in other directions.

"The other direction for me is you score a goal in the first minute, you have 89 minutes to score more goals and we didn't."
