Matt Doherty breaks his silence with social media message amid talk of £12m Tottenham transfer

Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Wolves defender Matt Doherty.

football.london understands that Spurs boss Jose Mourinho is a fan of the Republic of Ireland international, who can play not only as a right-back but also as a wing-back, right-sided midfielder and as a left-back.

With Wolves expected to sign Arsenal's Ainsley Maitland-Niles in a deal worth around £20m, his ability to play at right-back could help Spurs' chances of signing Doherty in a £12m deal.

Whilst not directly addressing speculation regarding a move to Spurs, Doherty has broken his silence amid all the transfer talk.

The defender took to social media on Tuesday to comment on a confirmed deal.

Young midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White has joined Championship outfit Swansea City on a season-long loan deal and Doherty has wished his teammate all the best.

"Go get it, all the best," he tweeted.

This post prompted a response from some Spurs fans.

Four replied with the same, 'Come to Spurs' message, while another explained that Doherty is needed at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next season.

In other Spurs transfer news, Serge Aurier - who could be a rival for Doherty at right-back next season - has been told he's not on AC Milan's radar this summer.

"There are many names that come close to us. Aurier is an excellent player, but at the moment there are no conditions to think about him," the club's director Frederic Massara said.

"He is not a goal."
