Matt Damon visits Hertfordshire pub and tips bar staff £70 each

It’s not every day that a Hollywood film star pays a visit to your local watering hole. Much to the dismay of regulars, Matt Damon decided to have an impromptu pint at a local village pub in Hertfordshire.

In a rather grand display of generosity, the 45-year-old Bourne actor left a $100 tip (£70) for each of the bar staff.

According to The Herts Advertiser, Damon was keen to avoid a busy venue so opted for a 'quiet drink' at a laid-back informal pub. In turn, he steadily sipped his way through a total of four pints of Guinness over the course of three hours perched at the bar. After stopping in at the Chequers Inn in the small village of Redbourn, Damen caught a flight from Luton in his private plane.

“All the guests just loved him,” Bob Morton, the pub’s manager, told the local paper. “He was really, really good with everyone. He just wanted a quiet beer and not a busy boozer. That was fine until somebody recognised him!”

“He was a really nice guy. Lots of people came up for photos and he didn’t mind one bit. He was an absolute gent,” he added.

Although Morton was slightly surprised Damon wasn’t taller in the flesh. “You see him on the films and you expect him to be this big film star but he’s just a normal guy”.
