Matt Damon's daughter fought coronavirus in New York as her family was stuck in Ireland

Matt Damon's eldest daughter was forced to battle coronavirus thousands of miles from her family as they were locked down in Dublin.

20 year old Alexia - who Matt's wife Luciana had with her ex-husband Arbello Barroso - is a student in New York City, and as such didn't travel with Matt, her mum, and sisters Isabella, Gia and Stella to the Republic of Ireland where Matt was shooting.

He was filming for Ridley Scott's latest offering, The Last Duel, when the country went into lockdown and forced Matt and family to isolate in the Dublin suburb of Dalkey.

Chatting with Graham O'Toole and Nathan O'Reilly on Spin 103.8's Fully Charged, Matt told: "Our eldest daughter is in college, she's in New York City.

"She had Covid early on, along with her roommates and got through it fine.

"But everybody's OK."

He added that his mum and mother-in-law have both grown concerned about the virus.

"Obviously for Lucy's mum and my mum, it's scary for that generation," he said, "I think we've all got the message now.

"Everyone's doing the isolation and social distancing and hand-washing and everything we can to mitigate this - but it's frightening, certainly for our parents."

Matt and the family plan to return Stateside as soon as they can, but when that is isn't clear as the Irish lockdown continues.

He went on to plug an old film on his, Contagion, in which he plays the husband of Gwyneth Paltrow who's patient zero in a deadly epidemic that brings humanity to its knees.

Matt said that they made the film purely by discussing the idea with experts and epidemiologists.

"Our screenwriter, Scott Burns," he revealed, "I've talked to him a lot through this.

"Anybody who says you couldn't predict this, look at Contagion. We made a movie 10 years ago just by talking to experts. It's tragic."
