Matt Damon has mocked Ben Affleck for losing the role of Batman to Robert Pattinson.

Affleck played the caped crusader in films Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League, and was even set to write, direct and appear in his solo superhero film.

However, the actor ultimately stepped down from the project in 2017 due to personal and creative issues.

When Matt Reeves took over, Pattinson was cast in the lead role and is currently shooting the film, titled The Batman, which will be released in March 2022.

Damon poked fun at the turn of events in a new Instagram video promoting the chance to meet the pair in Los Angeles as part of charity organisation Omaze.

“Tell them something they're interested in, like 'Hey, come see Jason Bourne, Batman,” Affleck said to which Damon wittily replied: “Robert Patinson's coming?”

In response to the joky dig, Affleck replied: “No, Jeremy Renner will be there, though.”

Renner played the lead role in The Bourne Legacy, a film set in the same world as the Jason Bourne films starring Damon.

“Jeremy Renner did not play Jason Bourne – he expanded the universe,” Damon replied, adding: “Pattinson took your job.”

Affleck and Damon, who wrote Good Will Hunting, reunited to co-write Ridley Scott film The Last Duel alongside Nicole Holofcener.

Both actors will appear in the 2021 film, also.
