Matt Damon leaves Ireland after Dalkey 'fairytale' - but promises he will return soon

Matt Damon promised to return to Ireland soon as he flew home from Dublin Airport this morning.

The Hollywood superstar finally returned to the States with his wife Luciana Barroso after almost three months here.

The Good Will Hunting star was snapped wearing a facemask as he was greeted by fellow passengers.

And when asked if he would be back in Ireland, he said: “Of course I’ll be back, gotta finish the movie.”

The 49-year-old actor, film producer and screenwriter from Boston became a Bourne again Dubliner when he was forced to set up camp in Dalkey at the beginning of March.

He was due to film the new Ridley Scott directed flick, The Last Duel, but filming was delayed due to coronavirus.

He said  in a recent interview : "I heard this story. I had no idea all this was happening behind the scenes. It's incredible."

The actor described Killiney Hill as "insane and like a fairytale" and mentioned a few places in the suburb that he has visited.

"The first few days we were here we went into a book store but unfortunately everywhere is shut down so it's limited [where we can go].

"There is a lovely coffee place still open. The barista said 'normally this place is really buzzing but I've actually got to know my customers lately because we have time to chat' which I thought was great."

He skirted around the question of purchasing a holiday home in Dalkey but said he is definitely coming back.

"I'm coming back anyway whenever the world rights itself. I have eight weeks of shooting to look forward to. We really want to get on with it but [Dalkey] wouldn't be a bad place to end up in...we'll get a beer when I come back."
