Matt Damon forced to isolate in small Irish town after being stranded by lockdown

Matt Damon has been forced to isolate in a small Irish town after being caught out by coronavirus lockdown.

The Hollywood actor had been filming for the adaptation of Ridley Scott's The Last Duel earlier this year, and was left stranded when American president Donald Trump stopped flights from Europe from landing in the US.

Now the multi-award winner, 49, has been delighting locals by turning up at their shops for essential groceries as he, his wife and four children kill time in the seaside town of Dalkey, a suburb of Dublin.

Before the start of the lockdown on March 27, Matt was spotted taking pictures with shocked fans outside a cafe, and again going swimming near the town having stuffed his clothes inside an Irish grocery plastic bag.

Matt - who's worth an estimated $160million - was also seen jogging around the town as he settled into lockdown life.

One fan tweeted: "Matt Damon ( huge fan) in Dalkey with a Supervalue bag made my day. Just speaks to how human we all are. This virus has no selectivity, does not discriminate and affects us all over the world. I hope Matt is enjoying his stay here."

Another joked: "Matt Damon got stuck in Dublin due to the lockdown, and now a few weeks in he looks like your cousin from Monaghan who's up for de weekend to go to de night club hai bai."

Waitress Mary Caviston was stunned to see the famous face walk into her workplace at the Corner Note Cafe.

"He came in at about 9.30 on a Sunday morning. It was 15 March so just two days before we went into lockdown," she told the Irish Mail On Sunday.

"He was with his wife and his beautiful children, there were six of them in total, he was the last in and he was wearing a baseball cap, and I did catch the American accent but other than that he was just like any other customer."

She added: "He had a beautiful family. They were all impeccably mannered, so polite, unassuming just really lovely people."
