Matt Damon to speak on climate change at panel event during COP26

Hollywood star Matt Damon will be speaking at the New York Times Climate Hub at SWG3.

The A-List actor is known for films like Good Will Hunting and The Departed, but he will be speaking on a panel at the event as co-founder of global non-profit organisation Water.org and asset manager of WaterEquity.

The 51-year-old will be joining New York Times Chief European Business Correspondent Liz Alderman and fellow co-founded of Water.org and WaterEquity Gary White at a panel event on Monday 8 November.

Running from 4pm to 4:45pm, the 'Washing Up: Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene' panel and think tank will focus on how public and private sectors can be incentivised to meet targets in water, sanitation and hygiene provision.

In reference to Matt Damon's speaker role at the Climate Hub, the New York Times wrote: "Academy award-winner Matt Damon is an actor, screenwriter, producer and humanitarian, who has garnered international acclaim for his work both on and off screen.

"Inspired by international travel with his family throughout Mexico and Guatemala as a youth, he has long been devoted to environmental and social issues. Learning about the immense challenges of accessing safe water and sanitation in sub-Saharan Africa, he decided to create the H20 Africa Foundation. In 2009, he teamed up with Gary White to merge their organisations and launch Water.org."

Joining him at the Climate Hub in speaking during the COP summit will be the likes of climate activist Greta Thunberg, former US Vice President Al Gore, Channel 4 News presenter Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai.
