George Clooney is assembling an all-star cast featuring Matt Damon, Julianne Moore and Josh Brolin for his next directorial venture, the 1950s-set thriller Suburbicon.
Clooney, who is also set to take a role in front of the cameras, has now committed to making the Coen brothers-scripted movie his next film, according to Deadline. The actor and film-maker is currently in negotiations with Damon, Moore and Brolin for the independent production, which he hopes to start shooting in October.
Details of Suburbicon first emerged in October. It is thought the noirish thriller will be tonally similar to the Coens’ 1984 debut Blood Simple.
Damon is hot property after starring in Ridley Scott’s The Martian, which has taken the global box office by storm with $572m in receipts and talk of an Oscars tilt – despite the science-fiction tale having been shut out of the Screen Actors Guild awards nominations on Wednesday. Moore won the best actress Oscar in February for her turn as an Alzheimer’s sufferer in Still Alice, and Brolin and Clooney recently worked together on the upcoming, Coen-directed Berlin film festival opener Hail, Caesar!
