Matt Costello continues to impress in Summer League despite foul trouble

Matt Costello has continued to put up big numbers for the Detroit Pistons in their Summer League outings and, as a big member of Pistons Twitter, I can tell you first hand that fans are starting to take notice. Costello went into the game averaging 13.7 points and 8 rebounds per game along with a few blocks. He has been impressive on both ends of the court, and that success rolled into today’s game against the 76ers, despite a pretty crazy foul total (8 fouls on the day).

Personally, his fouls don’t really bother me that much. I view turnovers and fouls with a grain of salt in Summer League as players are playing an aggressive style trying to set themselves apart.

What I was more impressed by was his shooting, which I didn’t even know he had in his arsenal. He went 3-for-7 on threes (42.9%), a very strong mark for a center. He had 18 points on the day to go along with 7 rebounds and a block. I don’t think he could do much more to further his NBA chances at this point, I think some team, whether it’s the Pistons or someone else, will give him a shot after this impressive series of performances.
