Matt Bryant says he’s been cut by the Falcons

Life can change quickly in the NFL. Just last night, Falcons kicker Matt Bryant tweeted that he has no plans to retire and plans on feeling better than ever thanks to a change in his offseason regimen. That wasn’t enough to save his job.

Bryant today tweeted that he’s been cut by the team. Here’s what he had to say:

This is somewhat of a surprise move by Atlanta considering they had signed Bryant to a three-year contract extension last offseason.

Bryant, who will turn 44 in May, had been with the team since 2009. By cutting him, the Falcons will save about $2.83 million in cap room this year but will take on a $1.33 million dead-cap hit.

Giorgio Tavecchio will be team’s starting kicker. He had a perfect 2018 season in the three games that Bryant sat out with injury, connecting on all five of his field goal tries and all eight of his extra-point attempts.
