Matt Barkley announces he signed with Titans

Quarterback Matt Barkley has announced he has signed with the Tennessee Titans, adding to a backup competition that already includes Logan Woodside and DeShone Kizer.

Barkley, 30, spent the last three seasons with the Buffalo Bills, serving as Josh Allen’s backup. He appeared in eight games (one start) and threw for 788 yards and three scores to four picks, completing 54.6 percent of his passes during his time there.

Buffalo was expected to re-sign Barkley earlier this offseason, but the team’s desire to roster a backup with a similar skill set to Allen’s led to the team signing Mitch Trubisky instead.

Barkley was originally drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, where he spent two seasons. He also played in regular-season contests with the Chicago Bears in 2016, making six starts.

The Titans’ current backup options haven’t done much to stand out during training camp, so it made sense to bring in another option. Barkley immediately has a great chance to land the job.
