Matt Baker's One Show replacement will not be a new recruit, BBC claim

The BBC have revealed they have no plans to bring in a new recruit to replace Matt Baker on The One Show.

The long-serving host, who had been presenting the show alongside Alex Jones for nearly a decade, said an emotional goodbye on Tuesday night, leaving Alex in tears and plenty of viewers at home absolutely gutted.

The Easington -born presenter revealed he was quitting The One Show before Christmas and making his final appearance from quarantine, after a family member showed symptoms of coronavirus, Matt told a crying Alex: "We've had some good times Al. I've watched your life change as well. You've got married, had two children and it's quite amazing really that we've been together for nine, nearly 10 years."

Alex then admitted: "You are holding it together way better than I am!"

And the BBC have said, as things stand, they won't be bringing anyone new in to replace Matt. "We are drawing on our existing family of presenters - made up of men and women - to present alongside Alex Jones," a spokeswoman said.

The current presenting One Show lineup includes South Shields comedian and Strictly semi-finalist Chris Ramsey, who has been impressing viewers since joining the programme earlier this year.
