Matt Baker has emotional goodbye with Alex Jones as he leaves The One Show

Nation's TV favourite Matt Baker has quit The One Show as co-host.

His on-screen partner Alex Jones bid him a fond farewell last night (March 31, 2020) from the green sofa they have shared for a decade, reports Wales Online.

Former Blue Peter presenter Matt has been self-isolating at home after a member of his family started to develop symptoms of coronavirus.

Carmarthenshire-born Alex paid tribute to her colleague and friend, and showed him a painting of the two of them by Adebanji Alade, the show's resident artist.

Alex joked: "We wanted to get you something really special but it was tricky to post a sheep.

"We have been together for so long and I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Matt, who toasted the audience with a gin and tonic, told Alex: "Thank you for all your support, and I want to thank each and every one of our viewers.

"I have loved every single second.”

The BBC is not replacing Matt, but is drawing on its “existing family of presenters” to host the show alongside Alex.
