Matsuyama moves up to 18th

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Hideki Matsuyama shot a 1-under 71 in the second round of the Masters on Friday to move up to 18th place at even-par 144, while Satoshi Kodaira also made the cut another shot back in 23rd place at the first major of the season.

Matsuyama, starting the day in 29th place, carded four birdies and three bogeys on the Augusta National course, leaving him nine shots behind leader Patrick Reed of the United States. Three of the birdies came on par-5 holes after he failed to record any on the long holes the previous day.

Kodaira was 2 over for the second round and dropped from 16th place.

Meanwhile, Yuta Ikeda and Yusaku Miyazato failed to make the cut. Ikeda finished 9 over at the halfway point in 69th place, while Miyazato was another shot back in 75th.
