Matkar replaces Surya in Mumbai Ranji team

MUMBAI: Left-arm spinner Dhrumil Matkar has received a Mumbai recall after nearly four years as he replaces dashing batsman Suryakumar Yadav in the squad for the team's fourth Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu at the Brabourne Stadium in Cricket Club of India from January 3.

On Saturday, the Mumbai senior selectors, led by former India pacer Salil Ankola, picked Matkar-he last played for Mumbai against Chhatisgarh at the Wankhede Stadium in January 2019, in place of Yadav, in a bid to strengthen the spin department.

Yadav will be on India duty for white-ball games against Sri Lanka, while the rest of the squad remains the same. The 26-year-old Matkar has played four First-Class games, in which he has picked 5 wickets@62. 60, with one five-wicket haul, besides scoring 171 runs@34. 20, with one fifty.

Mumbai have won 2 games, while they lost their last encounter against Saurashtra by 48 runs at the MCA's ground in BKC.
