Another Matildas player has returned to Australia for the W-League season, with Jenna McCormick signing for champions Melbourne City.

The defender joins City for the December 27 season start, after brief stint in Spain with Real Betis.

McCormick joins fellow Matildas Emily Gielnik (Brisbane), Katrina Gorry (Brisbane) and Teegan Micah (City) in returning from overseas for the new domestic campaign.

Matildas icon Lisa De Vanna is also back, signing for Melbourne Victory after the COVID-19 pandemic cut short the veteran forward's time in Italy with Fiorentina.

More players are expected to return in the coming weeks including experienced defender Clare Polkinghorne, who is tipped to once again line up for the Roar after the conclusion of Norway's Toppserien.

City are poised to confirm the re-signing of defender Emma Checker after the 24-year-old's move to French club FC Fleury 91 was cut short in October due to a stress fracture in her leg.
