Former Arsenal midfielder Mathieu Flamini has sent a message of support to Laurent Koscielny over the row that saw him refuse to leave on the club's pre-season tour to the USA.
Unai Emery is expected to formally strip the club captain of the armband with disciplinary proceedings set to follow.
He is understood to want to leave the Gunners this summer despite still having a year left on his contract in order to move back to France.
It was an unexpected shock for both players and fans as the experienced defender turned away from joining his squadmates on tour.
A statement was released by the club following his decision that noted their disappointment at his conduct.
On his official Instagram, Flamini sought to calm the anger around Koscielny's actions.
"Lolo, my thoughts and support are with you," he wrote on his account. "First and foremost, I know how committed and true to the Arsenal badge you have been all these years.
"Furthermore, I know how hard it must be for you to face this difficult situation.
"Emotions run high so sometimes with reflection, one can look at things from a different perspective.
"Given all of the above, I’m sure a positive solution will be found."
Only three of the five players named as captains to work under Emery last summer remains in the squad at the Emirates Stadium with Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil and Koscielny still on the books.
Aaron Ramsey and Petr Cech left the club this summer with the French defender unlikely to remain as skipper.
