Matheus Cunha Confirms Injury Status Ahead of Man Utd vs. West Ham

Matheus Cunha took to social media to confirm he is back in Manchester United training ahead of Thursday’s meeting with West Ham United.

A head injury in training has seen Cunha sidelined for United’s last two matches—defeat to Everton and victory over Crystal Palace—while he was also forced to pull out of a public appearance as part of his recovery.

Manager Ruben Amorim recently backed Cunha to make his return to the squad for the West Ham game, after which the Brazil international thanked fans for their ongoing support on social media.

It appears as though Amorim’s timeline was accurate as Cunha posted a picture of himself back in United training ahead of Thursday’s match.

“Back back back,” the 26-year-old celebrated.

During his latest update on Cunha, Amorim confirmed both striker Benjamin Šeško and defender Harry Maguire would need “a little bit more time” to recover from their respective injuries.

Šeško tweaked his knee before the international break against Tottenham Hotspur. There were immediate concerns that the big-money summer signing may have suffered a serious problem but these fears were soon alleviated.

Indeed, Šeško is expected back in action this month, as is centre back Maguire, who injured his hamstring during the same game against Spurs.

Amorim will be eager to welcome the injured duo back to action as the winter fixture schedule begins to ramp up. United have six games scheduled for December, half of which will be contested without Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui as they prepare to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The trio will miss meetings with Aston Villa, Newcastle United and Bournemouth before the end of the month, with games against Leeds United and Burnley also set to come too soon.

Deep runs in the competition would see any player involved miss out against Manchester City on Jan. 17, the date of the third-place playoff, while fitness will have to be tracked before the trip to Arsenal seven days later.
