Mateusz Klich thanks Marcelo Bielsa and makes Premier League promise to Leeds United fans

Mateusz Klich has paid tribute to Marcelo Bielsa for his instrumental role in guiding Leeds United to promotion.

The Whites are back in the Premier League after a 16-year wait after West Brom lost 2-1 to Huddersfield Town on Friday night.

It was a result that sent all of West Yorkshire delirious, bringing an end to a long wait after relegation from the Premier League in 2004, 16 years ago.

For Klich, it was a feeling he struggled, but did admirably, to describe hours after promotion.

The Polish midfielder, an ever-present for Leeds since Bielsa's arrival, paid tribute to his boss for transforming the fortunes of the club and himself as a player.

"He has changed me as a player, I can say for myself. I never thought I could play like this, this season and last season," Klich told BBC Radio 5 Live.

"He's a big coach, anyone can tell that.

"I think going up with Leeds is a big success for him as well. I hope he's very happy right now because he deserves it like we do. These last two seasons we dominate the Championship and I'm very happy.

"I don't even know so many words in English to describe how happy I am now."

On promotion, he said: "It feels great, I'm very proud of my teammates, very proud of myself.

"I'm very happy but we want to be champions so we're going to Derby to win the game. I can't really tell you how happy I am right now.

"I've been at a couple of clubs across Europe and I never felt pressure like this, especially when Leeds weren't in the Premier League for 16 years.

"You could feel it. Especially after last season after the Wigan game at home where we disappointed at least like 40,000 people in the stadium.

"We felt really bad and we really wanted to do better this season. The pressure was big especially after lockdown because we were on fire and then we had to wait a couple of months but we did it so I'm very happy."

Klich insisted that his side will approach the Premier League in the same manner as the Championship and won't curb their free-flowing, attacking philosophy.

"Yeah I think so, we saw that against Arsenal in the FA Cup that we won't change anything. It doesn't matter who we are playing," he added.

"We try to play our football, we try to dominate possession and be aggressive on the pitch. That's the way we got to the Premier League, we're not gonna change it at all so I can't wait for next season."
