Mateusz Klich sends amusing warning to Leeds United teammate Kalvin Phillips

Leeds United's midfield pairing Mateusz Klich and Kalvin Phillips are used to play with each other, rather than against.

However, that is likely to be the case when FIFA World Cup qualifying comes around ahead of 2022's tournament set to be held in Qatar.

England and Poland were drawn together in the same group which means the two countries will face each other for the first time since 2013.

Klich will be hoping to get one over on his Leeds teammate and see his country qualify automatically for the competition, but that will mean bettering England's points haul over the course of ten matches.

Leeds FFOTY 2020

Poland have history of disappointing England in World Cup qualifying, a 1-1 draw denying the Three Lions passage to the 1974 edition of the tournament thanks to a glorious goalkeeping display.

Neither Phillips nor Klich were born when that game took place, but Leeds United fans will be watching with a keen eye whenever the two face off against each other. There may well be pleasant scenes at full-time as the pair will be expected to swap shirts just like Stuart Dallas and Leeds-born Erling Haaland did earlier this year following Norway's demolition of Northern Ireland.

In the nature of good-spirited fun, Klich tweeted Phillips once the draw had been made, attaching a picture of hockey shin pads, much to the amusement of Leeds United supporters.

The Pole suggested by his tweet that Phillips would need extra protection to defend against Klich's notoriously tenacious tackles when the pair face off in qualifying.

Klich and Kalvin are not the only Leeds pair to go head-to-head in World Cup qualifying either. Robin Koch's Germany and Gjanni Alioski's North Macedonia will do battle in Group J.

Rodrigo and Diego Llorente's Spain have been drawn in Group B alongside Sweden, Greece, Georgia and Kosovo.

Captain Liam Cooper's Scotland will be looking to qualify for back-to-back major tournaments if they are to conquer Denmark and Austria in their group.

13 UEFA nations will qualify for the finals in Qatar at the end of 2022, ten automatically as group winners, and three more through the play-off system. There is a good chance there will some Leeds representation at the 2022 World Cup.
