Mateusz Klich's Poland joy as Gjanni Alioski hopes hang by thread - Leeds United internationals round-up

It was another dramatic night for Leeds United's internationals in European qualifying on Sunday evening, with heartbreak for one Whites star and elation for another.

Marcelo Bielsa will be fully focused on the upcoming match against Birmingham on Saturday as he hopes his team can find their early-season form again, having lost three of their last six matches.

The Leeds manager will be hoping his key players return to the club in one piece, with injury problems mounting up once again elsewhere in the squad.

Here’s the latest round-up of Leeds United’s internationals over recent days.

Mateusz Klich - Poland

Having featured at the base of midfield in last week’s routine 3-0 win over Latvia, Mateusz Klich was an unused substitute for their second qualifier of the week against Gjanni Alioski’s North Macedonia.

They got the job done without him, winning 2-0 to confirm their place at Euro 2020 next summer. Robert Lewandowski, who scored a hat-trick against Latvia, set up both goals in the final 20 minutes.

Gjanni Alioski - North Macedonia

Playing in more of a wing-back role for his country, the energetic Gjanni Alioski is one of his country’s key players. They’ve punched above their weight to keep their hopes of a first-ever European Championships alive going into these final few qualifiers.

But he couldn’t help them achieve an upset in Poland, and the 2-0 defeat leaves their hopes of Euro 2020 dangling by a thread. They’re five points behind second-place Austria - who they play next month - with just two games left.

Nohan Kenneh - England Under-17s

The highly-rated 16-year-old academy product played his second game in a week against Germany.

Last time out he played for the final half-hour as the Young Lions battled back to draw 3-3 at the Pinatar Arena, and he was given a start for Saturday’s rematch.

He played the full match as Kevin Betsy’s youngsters lost 2-1. Manchester United’s Will Fish scored a late consolation on his Under-17s debut.

Ryan Edmondson - England Under-19s

Ryan Edmondson featured for an hour of last week’s 3-1 defeat to France in the Marbella Cup, but he was an unused substitute in Saturday’s thrilling 4-2 victory over Belgium.

He’ll hope to have another call-up for next month’s Euro Qualifiers against North Macedonia, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Luxembourg.
