Mateusz Klich's play-off rally call as Leeds United star remains 'convinced' of promotion

Leeds United playmaker Mateusz Klich says that he is convinced the club can win the play-offs after Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa confirmed that they would miss out on automatic promotion.

The Poland international netted the opener in a controversial Championship clash that ultimately confirmed the Whites would miss out on the top two at the expense of Sheffield United.

Klich saw his opener wiped out in the wake of a mass brawl sparked by protests that Leeds should have put the ball out due to an injury to Villa's Jonathan Kodjia rather than play to the whistle.

Manager Marcelo Bielsa sportingly allowed the visitors at Elland Road to walk in an uncontested leveller in the aftermath, with the result confirming a five point gap to the Blades with a game to go.

Speaking after the match, Klich stated that he still believed United have what it takes to achieve their dream of reaching the Premier League, though he insists that they will need to produce their best form.

“I think we need to play like today,” the midfielder said. “We need to play our style, we need to be aggressive, and run a lot.

“It’s going to be OK, because I’m convinced we can do it but it’s all up to us and, as you say, it’s hopefully going to be three games with a big game at the end.

“We came so far and we can go through the play-offs as well. It’d be a waste [if we didn’t] because we were really good as a team, and yeah, we don’t want to waste it.

In the dressing room, everybody feels pain but we know we are able to win the play-offs. We’re going to do everything to recover our fitness, our strength and we’re going to go again.”

United face Ipswich Town on Sunday in their final regular game of the Championship season, where they will look to secure third place ahead of West Brom.
