Mateusz Klich lifts the lid on Leeds United's dressing room conversations ahead of Stoke clash

Midfielder Mateusz Klich has admitted that he and his Leeds United teammates want to get the season wrapped up and achieve promotion as quickly as possible.

The Poland international played a key role in ensuring the Whites stayed at the top of the Championship table over the weekend, scoring the Whites' third goal in a hard-fought 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon.

After racing into a two-goal lead through Patrick Bamford's 14th Championship strike of the season and a sublime Kalvin Phillips free-kick, Marcelo Bielsa's side's advantage was halved just after half time when Rovers' Adam Armstrong fired home a brilliant free-kick of his own.

But Klich was on hand to restore the table-toppers' two-goal advantage and wrap up another important three points.

However, Leeds, just like the rest of their promotion rivals, can ill-afford to rest on their laurels, with the games coming thick and fast.

On Thursday, the Whites welcome Stoke City to Elland Road, and Klich has admitted that everyone is eager to pull on the shirt and just play football right now in an attempt to seal the end-goal.

"Everyone in the dressing room just wants to play games," conceded Klich. "We want to finish the season as soon as possible.

"That's why we just can't wait. If it's a Thursday, Wednesday, Tuesday, Saturday, whenever.

"We just want to focus on the game."

Thursday will see Leeds go up against a Potters side still in great danger of suffering relegation to League One. As things stand, Michael O'Neill's men are just two points above the drop zone with five games remaining, meaning they are in need of points just as much as Leeds are.

Leeds stumbled when they went up against another relegation-threatened side in Luton Town last Tuesday at Elland Road, being held to a 1-1 draw, and Klich knows that this test will not be an easy one.

"As we know, Stoke need to win as well. I think they're going to try and play," added the midfielder. "They’ve got good players and they can play good football.

"Obviously results are not great from them at the moment, although today they won 4-0 [against Barnsley]. They want to stay in the league, so they're going to fight, it will be a tough game.

"They’ve got good players. There's no easy games in this league, so this is going to be another battle."
