Mateusz Klich gives update following Covid-19 test confusion on Poland duty

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich says he 'will be fine' following reports that his third Covid-19 test of the week returned a positive result.

Klich, who reported for international duty with Poland at the start of the week returned an initial positive test, which was then followed by a negative result.

A third test was taken ahead of Poland's 3-3 draw with Hungary, which Klich sat out and this, according to Polish team manager Jakub Kwiatkowski, as per Polish outlet Meczyki, was again positive.

That means Klich has been ruled out of Poland's home clash against Andorra and next week's trip to Wembley to face England.

Replying to a fan on Twitter, the 30-year-old allayed fears over his health.

"Sore throat and headache," he posted. "I have had worse hangovers. I will be fine," he added with trademark humour.

Leeds now have eight days before their next fixture, the April 3 Elland Road Yorkshire derby with Sheffield United.

Klich has started Leeds' last two matches from the bench and admitted earlier this week that he was struggling with fatigue after two-and-a-half seasons of almost ever-present play under Marcelo Bielsa.

"I admit that yes, that's why I've been resting more in the club lately," he told Sportowe Fakty when asked if he was feeling tired.

"I started two matches on the bench. Over the last three years I have 'loaded' some of these meetings, and I have not had any holidays. Fortunately, I was avoiding more serious injuries, but minor ones started to happen to me. From overload, from intensity. My joints don't hurt yet, I'm only 30 years old, but something hurt.

"At the club, we also train very hard between meetings, so it's hard to regain freshness. I hope to catch my breath, because I have the best matches when I am physically prepared."
