Mateusz Bogusz reveals Leeds United extension offer after move away from Elland Road

Former Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Bogusz has opened up about his move to Major League Soccer side LA FC and how Ibiza managed to block his transfer in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old Polish international left the Whites last month when he penned a four-year deal with the California-based side, which saw his own four-year stint with Leeds come to an end.

"There was interest [from LAFC] already in January, but then Ibiza didn’t let me go," Bogusz explained to Polish outlet Przegląd Sportowy. "They did not want to agree to shorten the loan with Leeds.

"But the matter was not over. It was obvious that in Los Angeles, they had a clear plan for me. I’ve learned a few things about this club, I’ve seen the training centre they have and I’m happy to be here."

However, Bogusz could've stayed as a Leeds player if he'd accepted a deal that was offered to him by the higher-ups at Elland Road. Instead, he opted for the move across the pond.

"I had heard that there were some [other offers], but they were more like the possibility of another loan," Bogusz explained. "I also had the option of a longer contract with Leeds.

"There I signed a three-year contract with an option to extend it and the club wanted to take advantage of it, so I could return to Leeds next season.

"But they [LA FC] gave me a nice plan. I will fight to play here. The team is attacking, creating chances, so I hope I can show myself.

"For me, this [move to LAFC] is very big progress. Especially because eight months ago, I returned to training after torn ligaments and injured my kneecap… after all, I came here from a team that was defending against relegation."
