Maternity ward comes up with amazing way pregnant women can use Easter eggs

Staff at a maternity ward have come up with a unique way pregnant women can make use of Easter eggs.

In keeping with the season, they have used different types of eggs as way of describing the changes that occur while giving birth.

The chart starts with a Mini egg to represent 1cm dilation, then increases to a Lindt egg, a Dime egg, a Smarties egg, boiled egg, Kinder Surprise, Millkybar egg, Buttons egg, a Rolo egg and finally a Cadbury egg to show full dilation at 10cm.

First look inside the new state-of-the-art maternity unit at Prince Charles Hospital

Shared on social media by the Royal Devon and Exeter Maternity Services, they titled it 'Eggstraordinary Cervix' and said: "For all the chocoholics out there a good way of knowing how dilated the cervix is in labour."

The post attracted thousands of comments, including: "I feel like this could put me off Easter Eggs for life!"

Another said: "Not sure if I’m impressed or traumatised by the idea of a stretched cervix being put in chocolate context."

While another made the point, "if I've got to push an Easter Egg out, surely its only fair I get some for Easter?"

During labour the cervix changes and opens to allow the baby out.

Contractions put pressure on the cervix and cause it to expand slowly.
