The Rev Paul Williamson should be careful when quoting the Bible to reinforce his opinions. When he objected to the consecration of the Rev Libby Lane as the first female bishop in the Church of England (Not quite a Viking raid, but York sees history in the Minster, 27 January), he shouted: “Not in the Bible.” Leviticus 19:19 states: “nor shall you put on a garment made of two different materials”. I hope he was not wearing heretical polyester cotton socks at the time of his protest. That too would have been “not in the Bible”.

• Like Voltaire, I defend your right to offend, but could you please stop using that hybrid picture of Cameron/Thatcher in the trails for your event “Is Cameron more radical than Thatcher?”. The cognitive dissonance puts me right off my breakfast.

• There is nothing new about tenants sharing rooms (Report, 26 January). It was ever thus. In 1970 when I moved to London all my female friends were sharing twin rooms. As underpaid teachers we could not afford anything else.

• Thanks for the helpful infographic of the Saudi royal family (New Saudi king will tread a familiar path, 24 January). It’s a remarkable family indeed, and one that can apparently reproduce itself without a single woman.
