Mateo Kovacic the unsung hero that will take Chelsea all the way in the Premier League title race

The rival fans have been silenced by Chelsea's emphatic home win against Norwich. Seven goals in a game where the Cobham graduates lead the blues to utter domination. Couldn't have asked for a better way to start off my weekend.

The goals flooded in through Chelsea's attack. The likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi, Mason Mount, and Reece James all made the scoresheet. We could speak about the Cobham boys all week and flood them with praises. They deserve recognition as some of England's best young prospects.

However, it is important to reflect and appreciate the silent, unsung hero from the match. - Mateo Kovacic.

Once upon a time, Mateo Kovacic's role in Chelsea blue was questioned by fans. He was deemed as the one in midfield who could not progress the ball. The one who was frustrating to watch when attacking.

Today he leaves Stamford Bridge with two impressive assists making it a total of 5 assists so far this season for the Croatian. More than he has ever had in his Chelsea career.

And we are only 12 games in.

Credit must be given to Thomas Tuchel here. He has given Kovacic a new role whilst occupying his twin six-position. He now has the freedom to contribute to attacks, assess where he can make important passes, and most importantly, add an extra hand in creativity for our attack. The fact is, everything Tuchel seems to touch turns to gold.

Callum Hudson-Odoi netted after 18 minutes following a pass from Kovacic. Kovacic spotted the 20-year-old's run from the halfway line and played a through ball that was reminiscent of Cesc Fabregas in his Chelsea days. The type of through balls that Chelsea has been missing for a long time.

With an accurate pass percentage of 94% and just losing possession only 6 times in 90 minutes, Kovacic could have been on course for a man of the match award. He played a crucial part in breaking up play, creating chances from the midfield. He also had 97 touches, more than any other player on the pitch - including Jorginho.

Not all heroes wear capes. Mateo Kovacic truly saved the day and kept the boys in blue in control for the entire duration of the match. It probably won't be spoken about enough, however, we here at CareFreeChelsea see the development in his game and he deserves his flowers.
