Matej Vydra to Rangers as Burnley striker 'closes in' on Ibrox transfer

Rangers are closing in a move to to bring Burnley striker Matej Vydra to Ibrox before the January transfer window closes, according to a report.

The 27-year-old has made nine appearances this season in all competitions but hasn't scored for the Clarets.

Steven Gerrard has been keen to bolster his attacking options after Jermain Defoe suffered a calf injury in the 2-0 win over Ross County.

The Czech Republic international brings a wealth of experience having previously played for Watford and Derby.

The move for Vydra comes after Rangers confirmed the signing of Ianis Hagi on a six-month loan deal from Genk.

But It's understood Burnley are keen to find a replacement before a deal to take him to Glasgow is rubber-stamped.

And now Vydra is set to further strengthen the Ibrox side as they look to wrestle the Premeirship title away from rivals Celtic, according to the Glasgow Times.

Gerrard and sporting director Ross Wilson used the early part of the window to clear the decks with a raft of outgoings but are pushing forward as they look to seal Vydra before the window shuts at midnight.

Meanwhile, Florian Kamberi has told Hibs he wants to join Rangers on-loan before Friday's transfer deadline.
