Cassia’s world is dictated by Society. These are the people who choose who you marry, how many children you have and when you die. On her seventeenth birthday, she attends her Match Banquet and finds out her husband is the best person she could have dreamed of him being. He’s perfect.
Until Cassia realises she’s falling for someone else.
I’ve wanted to read this book for a long time. And when I say a long time, I mean a long, long time, so when I finally managed to read it I was beyond excited.
After my high expectations, I found the beginning a little bit slow, but soon found myself submerged in the story of Cassia, Xander and Ky. This may seem like another typical YA love triangle – and for a while I thought it was – but (spoiler alert) the way Society was involved in Ky and Cassia’s relationship with each other was something that I did not see coming.
In addition, I originally found the character of Cassia agreeable, but nothing more. She seemed very gullible to think that there was nothing wrong with her world, even when she knew fragments of Ky’s past. As the story progressed and she started to open her eyes to the world around her, she became instantly more likeable in my eyes. To be fair though, I’d say that not many people would object to having their food served to them for every meal without any work on their part!
It may sound like I found this book a disappointment, but I found it gripping and entertaining after the initial slow pace had been left behind. I was really interested in the concept of the world Cassia lives in. I’d definitely recommend this book to my friends and will definitely read the rest of the series.
